Hello friends and damn-givers!
This is our last email of the year. 2022 has come and gone. Can you believe it? This year was an extremely difficult year on multiple levels. That said, I can’t tell you how excited I am for 2023. We’re working on so many amazing things that we can't to share with you.
Before I share the most recent (and last one of the year!) podcast conversation with you, I'd like to share a few things I’m consuming that I think you should consider consuming, too:
BOOK I’M READING: Unruly Saint: Dorothy Day's Radical Vision and its Challenge for Our Times by D.L. Mayfield. In the aftermath of The Great Depression, Dorothy started an incredible organization fighting for justice called the Catholic Worker Movement. This book beautifully shares with us who Dorothy was and why she worked tirelessly to help so many.
PODCAST I’M LISTENING TO: James Clear on How to Build Better Habits on The Daily Stoic Podcast. I read James’ Atomic Habits a few years ago and have followed his work and wisdom ever since. In this conversation, James helps listeners begin to build better habits as well as how to maintain these better habits.
ARTICLE I’M READING: TIME asked my friend Jacqui Lewis to write something for holidays and this is what she shared—Coming Home To Yourself This Christmas. I found these words toward the end of the article particularly helpful—“Even though you have suffered, that suffering does not define who you are, and it does not control your future. You are capable of goodness and beauty. Love can make you well.“ I encourage you to read and reread this incredibly helpful piece as we are almost halfway through Christmas and as we head into 2023 this weekend.
QUOTE I’M PONDERING: “What we would like to do is change the world—make it a little simpler for people to feed, clothe, and shelter themselves as God intended them to do. And, by fighting for better conditions, by crying out unceasingly for the rights of the workers, the poor, of the destitute—the rights of the worthy and the unworthy poor, in other words—we can, to a certain extent, change the world; we can work for the oasis, the little cell of joy and peace in a harried world. We can throw our pebble in the pond and be confident that its ever widening circle will reach around the world. We repeat, there is nothing we can do but love, and, dear God, please enlarge our hearts to love each other, to love our neighbor, to love our enemy as our friend.” — Dorothy Day
And now, here is the the final podcast episode of 2023:
