🎉 Let's Give A Damn is now on Substack!
Happy friends and damn-givers!
For those that are celebrating something meaningful this month—Happy Holidays! During these days, I hope you’ll find rest, peace, and hope.
So, why the move to Substack? Two main reasons. It’s easier to find and it’s easier to share on social media and with others. I hope you’ll like the change but please let me know if you have any issues with the new platform.
Before I share the most recent podcast conversations with you, I'd like to share a book recommendation, a podcast recommendation, and a quote that I can’t stop thinking about:
First, you should read The Nutmeg's Curse: Parables for a Planet in Crisis by Amitav Ghosh. In this brilliant book, Amitav masterfully connects our climate crisis and colonialism.
Second, listen to this conversation with Greg Behr and Ryan Rydzewski on the Wonder and Discipline of Mr. Rogers on the Daily Stoic Podcast. Whether you have children or not, there is much to learn from Mr. Rogers and this conversation.
Third, contemplate this quote from author Jack London: “I would rather be ashes than dust! I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry-rot. I would rather be a superb meteor, ever atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet. The proper function of man* is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time." (*this applies to all people, obviously, not just men)
I think you're really going to dig the most recent podcast conversation:
Detra Denise is my friend and an incredible human. You’ve never heard of Detra? Shame! Ok, no shame. But that must change today. Detra’s life and story were featured a few months ago on Humans of New York. Since then, her life has changed. A lot. Before you listen to my conversation with Detra on the podcast, here are a few things you should do first.
— Follow Detra on Instagram and Facebook.
— Follow Detra’s Story on Instagram.
— Visit the brand new Detra’s Story website.
— Buy her limited edition, 5-pack cigar sampler!
Now, click below to listen to our conversation. And don’t forget to bring a few tissues.
OK, that's all for this week. Thank you for reading. I'm truly grateful. Consider forward this email to a friend? Or send them this link so they can sign up! And you can always email me. Love y'all.
Keep giving a damn, my friends!
