Rainn Wilson thinks we need a spiritual revolution. And so do I.
Mountain Film Festival! Rainn Wilson! Soul Boom! And more!
Hello friends,
Happy Sunday! How are you doing? Really, how are you? Reply to this email and let me know. I truly hope you’re feeling hopeful and energized in all that you’re doing.
I apologize for being a couple of days late on this week’s email. I have a sort of excellent excuse. I’m currently enjoying all that Mountain Film Festival and Telluride, Colorado have to offer. I’m sharing a beautiful home with my friends Rod, Alli, Samir, Vesna, and a few others. I’m the youngest person in our group and I’m having a blast hanging out with and learning from older and wiser friends.
There is still a day and a half left but, If I may, I’d love to share a few film and resource recommendations from the festival so far:
Bill KcKibben gave an incredible tap on the first day of the festival. Do you know about Bill? He’s a legend. Read every book Bill has written. Get involved with 350.org. Lastly, if you’re over 60 and are determined to leave the planet better than you found it, join Third Act.
I watched The Grab (watch the trailer!) yesterday and was blown away. Not only was it directed beautifully, Nathan Halverson was a compelling central figure.
Patrol is a must see! Here’s a synopsis: An emerging crisis in one of the last remaining rainforests in Central America ignites a heroic mission in PATROL. When illegal cattle ranchers decimate large swaths of rainforest, indigenous rangers join forces with an American conservationist and undercover journalists to expose the dark world of conflict beef.
I met Sophia yesterday. Do you know about this incredible AI humanoid robot?
There are so many incredible documentary films at MFF this year. Whenever you can see the ones mentioned above, please do!
Now, for this week’s podcast. My friend Rainn Wilson returned to the podcast to talk about his new book (Soul Boom: Why We Need A Spiritual Revolution!), his new TV show (The Geography of Bliss!) and so much more.
Lisa Ling, coauthor of Somewhere Inside and host of This Is Life, had this to say about the book: “This is the insightful exploration of spirituality that we desperately need right now. As we all seek answers amidst an unceasing news cycle of chaos and doom, Rainn Wilson’s Soul Boom funnily but gently and lovingly opens a door to a deeper way to process all that is happening around us. The wisdom in and on these pages will fill your soul and touch your heart.”
Rainn has been such an incredible encouragement to me and to Let’s Give A Damn. I’m so grateful for his life, work, activism, and wisdom. Please set aside an hour to listen. And then another minute to share with a friend or two!

Friends, I have to go another film in just a few minutes so I’m going to cut this week short. Thank you for reading. I'm truly grateful. Consider forward this email to a friend? Or send them this link so they can sign up. And you can always email me. I’ll be back next week with good news and steps we can take together to make our world a much better place. We have a lot of work to do. Love y'all.
Peace and love,
Nick Laparra
